Yes, it's true, parts of the latest Ad campaign by Microsoft were created on a Macintosh using Adobe CS3, this tasty leak was snagged by Flickr user LuisDS .

Anyone who works in this business knows that there are is a mountain of mismatched machinery, software and operating Systems involved in the process of creating advertising material, so in reality, this really should not be a big deal, the TV ads probably had some contact with Autodesk Flame as well, but I really can't help getting a chuckle out of this one.

The strange thing is that we use the services of  continuity people all the time, surely this is a case demanding something similar, work flow integrity. I mean would you  buy a GM build by Ford?
Introducing the latest in the 'Format Wars' The Sony BVE-800
Be afraid, be very afraid.

No, there is nothing to be scared of here, Adobe is playing in the pond as usual and talking the talk as you might expect, Adobe's internally distributed video on the Beta integration of RED into Premier http://mbsdirect.com/redone/ does a good job of asking more questions than it answers, it sure caused a stir on both the AVID-L and FCP-L

So much has been, and will continue to be written about RED, but right now I just can't see for the life of me who gives a damn. The camera might be cheap, but from then on you will hemorrhage cash if you follow the RED work flow.

ahhh the web, it holds no secrets.... 2001 -

Waz finds trouble again, easy solve today, but just 7 years ago this was a toughy, back then it was stripped JBODs only. Raid 0 or 1 that was it! SCSI was reliable but you better know your
DIP switch chain, and, Holy crap! that's a 120 Gig drive your talking about there! Careful !

The drive I'm talking about here cost $4500 for 120 Gig, 7500rpm JBOD from MEDEA
http://web.archive.org/web/20021127181145/http://medea.com/

MEDEA were bought by AVID because they just made better gear. Western Digital, and Seagate are the standards today for SATA and IDE, but back then it was the Wild West
.
Floppy anyone?

A select few at IBC2008  got a sneak peak at Adobe Systems latest release of CS4.Codename Stonehenge 11.0 was leaked as beta as far back at June

CS3 was an enormous leap ahead for one reason Dynamic link. Personally I mix many tools across  3 OS so Dynamic Link never quite smacked me a happy, but for the closed loop guys DL was a huge leap forward.
Word is, Adobe has OPENED the loop in CS3. I did have quite a few blips getting all apps to talk across servers, apparently this is all solved.

Big news is "RED R3D and AVCHD join Panasonic P2 and Sony XDCAM EX and HD, as camera formats that are supported by Adobe Creative Suite software applications, with no transcoding or rewrapping."

If the spin is true, that means native support for most of the formats we use and need.
As y'all know I'm a hard core Avid guy, but when I'm managing a 30 sec TVC that's shot 1080i50 on a P2 that's begging for a rough cut then onto the geniuses in graphics who are using After Effects, I just cant ignore Adobe CS4

Also, the way Flash is being adopted as the new standard for Web delivery, we better all get familiar with the Phoenix that is Adobe Video

The last few days, Ive been busy editing and encoding highlights of the Brisbane Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival and what a great show it's been. My favorite so far is Day 3 but that might just be because I nailed the audio mix, thanks to Jaala who has worked tirelessly as my under appreciated producer, Jaala has a fine ear, and is also doing some amazing things with pictures and music

Editing again on Avid Media Composer, unfortunately this time using DVCAM tape as source which brought the usual unsatisfactory resolution issues into play. These days I would prefer to be working with DVCPRO 50 as a minimum. 4:2:2 acquisition is mandatory as far as I'm concerned, especially when the finished job will be encoded for web delivery.

This job was encoded to Flash Video using FlixPro with On2 VP6 Codec. With a 4:2:2 originating codec I always get a great result, but as expected, DV artifacts played havoc, and can been seen on occasions as red sparkles, especially visible in dark zones.

OMG, yawn, another online encoding site, BUT WAIT, there's more , not much, but just enough to spark my interest. Media Converter is the latest in a spawn of I/O encoding sites, except this has a spin.
Wow! , I've had a wild month of assessing the latest in CMS back ends and frankly I'm over it.
It started out an investigation into the better blogging tools and ended up frying my brain. Now don't get me wrong, I cut my teeth on SQL but WYSIWYG editors promise so much and deliver so little, I was hoping for so much more re: software writing software.

Oh well, back to code it is grrrrrrr..
